Our members enjoy several benefits from our partnership between the Dedham Art Society and the Munnings Art Museum. A substantial discount off an annual visitors pass is available to members; we regularly use the grounds as a venue and the museum enriches our annual programme of art events. As an art society based in Dedham we feel very lucky to have this wonderful art museum on our doorstep.

The Munnings Art Museum is at Castle House, the former home of the artist Sir Alfred Munnings (1878-1959) and his wife, Violet. Described by Munnings as “the house of my dreams” he lived and worked in this elegant Tudor and Georgian building for over forty years until his death in 1959. The house, artist’s studio and garden are set in forty acres of beautiful countryside in the Dedham Vale on the borders of Essex and Suffolk.

The museum owns the largest collection of art works by this prolific East Anglian painter and former President of the Royal Academy (1944-1949). Enjoy the ambience of Castle House with the furniture and personal items which remain in situ as if Sir Alfred and Violet have just left the room to return at any moment.

EACH supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk. The charity offers families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support and its family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, care at end of life, bereavement support and counselling. At home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridgeshire), The Nook (Norfolk) and The Treehouse (Suffolk). HRH The Princess of Wales is Royal Patron.

EACH relies on public backing and provides its vital, specialist medical and emotional support completely free of charge. It relies on donations for the majority of its income. This year alone, it needs to raise £6.7 million from Fundraising and £7.8 million in Retail income.

With this fundraising target in mind, Dedham Art Society supports the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice through the sales of members artworks. 20% of art sales at our annual gallery exhibition is donated to the EACH charity.

Our current exhibition of a selection of members artwork can be seen at The Munnings Art Museum's Garden Cafe until the museum closes for the winter in October. The exhibition will refresh in June and August.

Our members are thrilled to have a venue to exhibit regularly and feel very privileged to be able to exhibit their work in the Garden Cafe which was once Alfred Munnings studio, the very building where he spent hours working and created many of his masterpieces.

We have over 50 artworks from members on display for sale. 10% of sales will be donated to the Castle House Trust, the charity which runs the Munnings Art Museum.
